Debussy – Vive La France

VIVE LA FRANCE  is a pair of arrangements from MASSENET and DEBUSSY  of the Meditation from Thais, and Clair de Lune. Both are well known themes, from opera and for piano. The Massenet segues beautifully into the Debussy. Both have lovely melodies, more traditional harmonies in the first, and the impressionistic mood of Debussy in the second.

Thais has instrument parts for piccolo, three C-flutes, alto flute, bass flute, and bass 2 or contra flute. It is not long, 77 measures at Andante tempo of 70 to the quarter note.

Clair de Lune has instrument parts for piccolo, four C-flutes, alto flute, bass flute and bass 2 or contrabass. It also is not too long, 73 measures at a slow 50 per quarter note, despite which the arpeggios will require attentiveness.
